I’m a nanny because I love working as a nanny because I feel like I learn something new every day. Kids keep you grounded and help you to appreciate the little things in life.
My past childcare experience I was a nanny for two amazing families for three years while I attended Florida State University. The family I worked with daily, and eventually came to live with, has three children; two boys now five and ten, and one girl who's twelve (going on twenty-five!). The mom was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was pregnant with their third child and he was born with an agenesis of the corpus callosum, meaning he is missing part of his brain. I started with them when he was two years old, still not walking or talking. Like with most other families they were always busy. I juggled picking up all three kids from different schools; took the littlest to speech, physical and occupational therapies, the middle to basketball, baseball or karate, and the oldest to gymnastics everyday. I helped them with homework and school projects (and sometimes felt like I was on the gameshow "Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?") I also helped with laundry and dishes, and if I had free time would help with projects around the house. I quickly became a part of the family and truly believe that a nanny should be more than just an employee since they are a huge part of your child's life. The second family I worked for attended church with the other family. When I first began working for them, they had two girls, four & seven, and were pregnant with their third. She was a stay at home mom, so I helped two mornings a week. I took the older girl to school and stayed at home with the younger so the mom could run errands and have some much needed "me time." When the baby was born, I was the first person they left her alone with. I was with her from two months to eighteen months, witnessing all the little steps along the way. Both families hold a special place in my heart and we still keep in touch.Over the past year I've been a nanny for two adorable and extremely energetic little boys, three and four years old. The younger has been diagnosed with Asperger's and constantly keeps me on my toes. I dropped them off and picked them up from school and also attended various occupational and behavioral therapies. It's sad to say "goodbye" but Boca is my new home while I'm in nursing school. I'm hoping to find another family I can not only work for, but also grow with.
