Relevant experience where I also cared for children were…I started out babysitting when I was 10 years old. Caring and teaching children has been a part of the foundation of who I am for my entire life. My first nanny job was for two boys ages 2 & 4 and that was 20 years ago. Most recently I have worked with children with special needs as a paraeducator in a variety of school settings.
Activities I enjoy doing with children…Memorable arts and crafts,
Age appropriate cooking,
Building with blocks/legos/pillows,
Dancing and singing,
Swimming or introducing to water,
Beach walks (sand castles too!),
The most important part about being a nanny…The relationships! You are trusting me with the most important people in your world and I am humbled by the trust while equally empowered to impress. I love the moment you can watch a child really wrapping their mind around a concept. I want to make those moments happen all the time!
My experience with special needs children…I can give you a list of special needs that children have been diagnosed with like: Autism, ADHD, ADD, PTSD, ODD, Downs Syndrome, Tourette, Epilepsy and more. What I'm proud of is that none of those labels affected my enthusiasm or passion to improve the lives of every child I know. I have taken a student who was floundering in his program and shown him the confidence to speak up for himself while integrating his love of music into his daily curriculum. I have shown a young man who had barely been socialized his entire life that he could make and maintain friends.
I have taken extensive notes and collected books of data. If you have a child with special needs I would be honored to help them navigate this world.
My favorite nanny moment…I hadn't seen this boy who I cared for between the ages of 2 - 10 in some years. He made a point to invite me to his high school graduation and when I arrived at his graduation party I was the guest of honor! He got so much taller than me it was comical. His mother, grandmother, and siblings all brought me to tears with their kind words and we are all in contact today.
