Babysitter/Caregiver/Summer Camp Counselor

Worked off the books as a caretaker when I was just a teenager, watching over 3 children from ages 2-8 years old for this lady named McKenzie from Brooklyn. She needed a sitter at the time for a year until she moved away. I had to cook, feed them on time, clean them and put them to bed at a certain time. They loved me, I was very entertaining for the children and engaged in many different activities, whither it were arts and craft or going to the park in the neighborhood. I even used to work as a counselor in training at the YWCA in Yonkers, NY after I finished summer camp. Also helped my sister raise her four children off and on from time to time and used to babysit also being left in charge to take care of responsibilities.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Always, absolutely always being mindful of the heart, health, the mind, the body, how fragile and pure any child is. It’s a representation of growth, strength and what they’ll become through adaptiveness with others and their environment especially. Very important to always care for their words of expression, feelings and actions. It will always matter to never desensitize them ever nor put them in any situation and to avoid any situation of such. The mind is a very powerful tool for development for any being, especially at youth. Teaching MINDFULNESS (DBT Skills) I personally feel is so important and not just for people with mental health only, everyone could learn about dialectical behavior therapy skillsets to know how to communicate and express oneself in the most rational considerate way in order not to hurt feelings or to belittle others. Teaches selflessness and self reflectivity.

My experience with special needs children...

Off and on throughout the years of my life, I have engaged and worked with children with special needs (autism) with friends family members or in special educational school district settings. Mental health is SO IMPORTANT to me, especially as a person who wants to advocate for anyone who has mental health, they usually love to work and have me around. It’s always worth it!
