More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

My brother was born when I was 12 years old, and I got really good at everything to do with caring for him. I just loved it! That was when I got my start. Then babysitting him and his friends and all the neighborhood kids. I worked part-time as a nanny for a family that had two children when I went back to college. I absolutely loved it! I was like part of their family.. I got to know all the neighbors and their kids , and pretty soon they were all calling me. I also started doing overnight and weekend
sitting. House/dog/garden sitting. I was booked a month out! Had to hire 2 people to help me I was so busy! Had 30 to 40 kids I would care for. Then I took a job as a director for the before and after school program at a charter School K-8. I got Med certified for that job, CPR, AED machine, and several other certifications for child care.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Art projects, I have a lot of different things I can show them with various types of paint and Beads and resin Etc. Music!! I have two guitars, bongos, lollipop drums, and all kinds of different things that make different noises to make music. That's always fun to do outside too in nature. I like to do nature walks and collect different things we find like leaves and rocks and learn about the different plants and trees and insects Etc. We can take pictures of things and scavenger hunts. Play basketball, soccer, baseball, whatever sounds like fun. We could go to the park, all kinds of things to do if it's nice out

The most important part about being a nanny...

Making sure the kids are safe, that they are eating healthy food/snacks and drinking plenty of water, leading them/teaching them (by example) to be honest, caring, respectful of others, patient, kind, and how to be thinkers. Having fun, and being a kid . Using their imaginations and being creative. Help them learn the right ways of doing tasks . I make it fun for them.

My experience with special needs children...

I've worked with an autistic boy that was in 5th grade. He was in my before and after school program. I became his favorite teacher and the only person he would listen to, trusted, or that could calm him down when he would have his meltdowns. We went to a public swimming pool during the summer program, and I got him to go in the pool with me. He'd been in the summer program for 5 years and nobody could get him to go in the water, until me. Love making connections with kids. They are awesome. Also, one of my best friends adopted two little girls from Hawaii who are autistic. Another friend of mine had little sister who was autistic, a friend of mine in junior high was in a wheelchair, and I've been around several kids/people that have had MS and various other disabilities. I feel confident in caring for a child or person that is autistic or disabled.

The most important part about being a nanny...

There was a three year old little boy that was having a hard time with potty training. I told him if he could try to use the potty instead of a pull-up, I would take him to Walgreens and and get him a special treat to celebrate. And sure enough, he did it! So as we're walking through the parking lot of Walgreens, he looks up and asks me if this is Walgreens? I said yes it sure is! He says" the wall isn't very green!!" Hahahaha!
