A little bit about me

Hello! My name is Mikayla, but I prefer to be called Kayla! I am 19 and currently attending Taylor Andrews Academy of Hair Design! I go to school at night from 5-10pm, but I am free all morning during the week and free at night on the weekends! I am getting married this June to the love of my life and I am in need of a job! I absolutely love kids and their fun personalities. I think it’s very important to treat kids as individuals so they have the space to become their unique selves! I am very passionate about teaching kids kindness and being patient with them! I am CPR certified as well as trained in the Heimlich maneuver. I also give free children’s haircuts for the families I nanny for!

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I babysat my neighbors twin babies as well as their oldest daughter for 2 years on and off.
Currently I have been taking care of my nephew since he was a newborn to now as he is 9 months old. My other sister is taking care of him so I can work. I volunteered at my school to do charity work for less fortunate children! I gave haircuts to many children ranging between 3-15 years old. Growing up in my church I helped out many times in the nursery to babysit the kids!

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Indoor activities I love to do with kids is the floor is lava with pillows on the floor, treasure hunts, art projects, play dough, barbies, truck/car races, building forts, kid-friendly science experiments, watch movies, and many more fun activities!
Outdoor activities I love to do with kids is draw with chalk, go on a walk to a park if suitable, fun yard games like red rover, kid-friendly yoga, choreograph fun dances, play sports, as well as use things in nature for fun art projects!

The most important part about being a nanny...

Being patient with each kid! Every kid learns differently and has different interests! I think it’s important to balance these factors so each child feels appreciated and like their being listened to! I think it’s important to teach them as I’m with them so their learning life lessons! It’s important for me to show them I love them and care about them! I’m not just there for the money, I’m there because I want to help them learn and grow.

My experience with special needs children...

I’ve worked with quite a few special needs children. Some with varying spectrums of autism as well as some with downs. I volunteered to have an activity night for those with special needs as a young woman. I got to learn more about how to care for them! Having patience is a huge thing needed with kids with any kind of special needs. I am a very understanding and patient person! I love working with special needs children, because they have such precious spirits to them!

The most important part about being a nanny...

One of my favorite moments as a nanny/babysitter was when I got the kids to surprise their parents with a special anniversary gift! I had them paint pictures for their parents! They had such a fun time doing it. They were super excited to show their parents and it made me so happy to see the family bond closer and see the love emulate from one another!
