Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Of course when homework is done I like to take the kids outside whenever weather permits, playing catch, sports training, simple games like hide and seek and tag for the younger ones. The kids really like the bike riding, riding scooters, hikes, and trails. Inside there's also lots to do. I'm a crafts girl. I like to get them painting, building, doing origami, expanding their artistic potential, even playing piano. I have a portable one to bring if you don't have one. Even puzzles, board games, and card games. I like to keep them so busy that phones and tv seem like a distant thing. I hope that works with you!
The most important part about being a nanny...
Reliability and growth. The children are the absolute most important. Keeping them safe, but also making sure we show up for them, being mentally and physically present.
My experience with special needs children...
Working as a caregiver at Tungland I cared for around 40 clients. Ages ranging from adolescent to adult. Developmental needs also ranging from Autism, Aspergers, ADHD, OCD, Non verbal, Wheelchair bound, etc.
The most important part about being a nanny...
Going on walks around the neighborhood with little Scott. He had his own imaginative story about all the neighbors. They always gave him stuff when they saw us out. He was so locally famous. He had a bad rep for being uncooperative for other nannies but he had a soft spot for my subtle bribes. A true hidden gem in the community. They moved, but I'll always miss that little guy.
