More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
Entering college I was undecided in my major and leaned towards Early Childhood Education classes. This included an Intro to Education course and Educational Psychology. While taking these classes I volunteered in a fourth grade math classroom helping tutor individual students in the subjects they needed extra help understanding. Additionally over the years I've been the go-to for friends/family when an opportunity to volunteer, coach, or help out with kids is needed.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love anything creative! Drawing, painting, puzzles, crafts are my go-to's. I like to keep things interesting and really enjoy little pre-planned, provided by me, activities like setting up scavenger hunts, building insect/fairy homes, etc. I would consider myself a girly-girl and love to paint nails, do hair and have spa days...but I love the outdoors, nature, and games too! I love seeing each kid's special interests, and am dedicated to fostering those interests and their creativity.
The most important part about being a nanny...
What matters most to me about being a nanny is obviously safety, that is always number one. Beyond that, I'm always striving to keep things upbeat/fun, making the kids feel understood/heard and that their interests/ disinterests are valued and respected. I love getting the opportunity to individualize care, crafts, communication, you name it, based on what children need.
My experience with special needs children...
I have not had the opportunity to care for a child with special needs, but would definitely be open to it! In elementary school I was chosen as the "buddy" to a highly autistic classmate and have had a soft spot for children who need extra care ever since.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I had the rare opportunity to start caring for a baby at 3 days old until 11 months. Situationally, the baby was not in his parents care and it worked out best for me to care for the baby in my home. I don't believe I'll get a job like that in the future (until I have my own kids of course) but that job felt different. It may not be a specific moment but everyday getting to see all the milestone developments, personality come out, bond and give someone who needs a little extra love all of mine was the best time period of my life. The toughest but the most rewarding moments and experience that I truly will always hold with me and cherish deeply. (Fun Fact I cried typing this)
