The most important part about being a nanny...
...is getting to know the parents/primary caregivers as well as the children. As a nanny, I want to make sure that I have a clear understanding of house rules, disciplinary boundaries, and parenting ethos and values, so that I can provide the most valuable and complimentary care possible.
My experience with special needs children...
I have worked closely with children on the autism spectrum and children with some physical disabilities/sensory needs. My little brother (8 y/o) has a vision impairment and is Autistic. Much of my understanding of how to best care for and support special needs comes from spending time with him!
The most important part about being a nanny...
Working with kids gives you so many funny and beautiful stories! When I left my teaching job, one of my students asked me, "When you leave tonight, will the car go past my house?"
I said, "Maybe!"
She said, "Will you wave to me?"
"Of course!" I said.
"But if you leave at night, after I go to bed... will you still wave to me?"
