More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I've spent over 15 years as a private music teacher working with children ages 2-17 in piano and voice. This work has not only given me a unique skill set, but been invaluable for teaching patience, adaptability, and flexibility. I gained experience in managing groups of children for independent classes, and was given the opportunity to create early childhood music classes as well. I learned to incorporate multiple strategies to reach children of widely different abilities, and this sparked a lifelong love of teaching and children!
As I began to branch out into more permanent child care, I became a full time assistant teacher at a child care center, and later a research assistant with Michigan State University in the Early Childhood department. I assisted with language and literacy assessment and took graduate courses for early literacy skills.
I grew up volunteering in my church's nursery, caring for newborns to preschool, and took regular babysitting jobs for friends and family.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I make sure to keep activities age appropriate, but still engaging.
I'm a very hands-on nanny and love gross motor skills activities such as Play-Doh, puzzles, catch, coloring, drawing, finger painting, and shape matching.
I also like to explore the outdoors and am a strong supporter of outdoor play. I love spreading this appreciation to children, so we participate in seasonal activities like playing in the leaves, building snow forts and snowmen, taking nature walks, and visiting nature centers.
I foster reading aloud and imaginative play, so I set aside regular time each day for reading books, creating stories, role play, and puppets.
Sensory stimulation activities are a big part of a day as well through alphabet songs, dance, singing, rhythm games!
I approach every day as a chance to connect, learn, and make memories, and take an active interest in conversation and helping children understand their thoughts and emotions.

The most important part about being a nanny...
I have two governing rules in my nanny philosophy: safety and integrity. I believe they go hand in hand, and if I cultivate those two traits, everything else will follow.
I understand the vulnerability finding external care can place on parents, so I strive to be consistent, open, and honest, doing everything in my power to foster easy communication and reassure them off their children's safety and well-being. Because I see nannying as a long-term investment, my goal is to act as a point of support and be always depended upon to care for their children with their best interests in mind.
This is why I'm willing to be certified in CPR, and am working on certifications to bolster my emergency skills. Parents need the peace of mind knowing their children are in safe hands.

My experience with special needs children...
I have worked with children ages four to fourteen who fall on the autism spectrum, as well as children with ADD and ADHD.
I also work regularly with children who have academic difficulties in reading, writing, and comprehension, and use music as a teaching tool to help improve their skills through writing assignments, reading reports, and music tutoring.
