A little bit about me

I'm entering my junior year of college, where I’m a Division 1 swimmer and majoring in psychology. During the school year, I work as a lifeguard and volunteer by giving swim lessons to underprivileged youth because I believe everyone should have the opportunity to learn how to swim. I'm also a mental health ambassador for all student-athletes at my school. In that role, I plan activities and promote the importance of both mental and physical health. When I’m home in Winston-Salem, I work at a daycare in a gym, as well as at the front desk, which has given me hands-on experience with children of all different ages. On a more personal level, I have two younger brothers who are 8 and 10 years younger than me, so I’ve spent a lot of time caring for younger kids. I’ve also been babysitting every summer since I was 15, so I’ve had about four years of babysitting experience. Overall, I’m reliable, organized, and hardworking, but I also love having fun with the kids I care for!

The most important part about being a nanny...

In my opinion, the most important part of being a nanny is creating a space where kids feel truly safe, both physically and emotionally. I’m certified in lifeguarding, CPR, AED, and first aid, so safety is always a top priority for me, especially in a big city where extra caution matters. But just as important as physical safety is making sure children feel emotionally secure. I always strive to be someone they can trust, talk to, and feel completely comfortable being themselves around. When kids feel safe in every sense, it builds a foundation for connection, confidence, and fun. That’s the kind of environment I always aim to create.

My experience with special needs children...

I am part of the Team IMPACT leadership team through my college swim team. In this role, I’ve received basic training on how to interact with children with special needs. One of the most meaningful parts of this experience has been getting to spend time with a wonderful young girl who has special needs and helping her feel like a valued and included member of our team. It’s taught me a lot about patience, empathy, and the importance of making every child feel seen, supported, and included.

The most important part about being a nanny...

One of my favorite babysitting experiences was with a young boy I cared for last summer, who was very shy and quiet when we first met. At the beginning, he barely spoke and kept to himself, but over time, he began to open up and grow more comfortable around me. By the end of the summer, he gave me a drawing he had made just for me. It was such a small but meaningful gesture, especially knowing that when we first met, he wouldn’t have felt comfortable enough to do something like that. I still have the drawing, and it reminds me of the importance of patience and building trust when working with children.
