A little bit about me

I was an elementary teacher for 24 years before having my daughter who is now 4. I have been at home with her and been a nanny for another child her age ans his older brother, since she was 9 months old.
Although I miss being in the classroom, I have really enjoyed being a nanny for the past few years. It has given me the opportunity to be with my own daughter and also to spend time taking care of and teaching another child.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I was a classroom teacher for 20 years. During which time, I taught kindergarten, third and fourth grade. I then spent 4 years as a literacy coach. In that position, I coached K-5 teachers in best practices for teaching literacy, modeled lessons with students and worked with small groups to increase reading skills.
I also have nursery school experience, teaching pre-k when I graduated from college.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love outdoor time at the playground or park with little ones. I also love to do crafts and read stories. For the past few months, I have really enjoyed utilizing a preschool at home program with my daughter and the little boy I take care of each day. It involves a daily read aloud, poems, mini lesson and usually a craft. I also love incorporating music and poems which are a great way for little ones to learn.

The most important part about being a nanny...

As a mommy, I realize how difficult it can be to leave your child with someone to care for them when you can't be there. In addition to building a relationship with the child, and caring for them, I think it's equally important that the parents feel good about leaving their child in my care. Trusting that I can provide a caring, safe and engaging environment for their child.

My experience with special needs children...

I have some experience with special needs students in a classroom setting, but not in a private setting.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I have had the unique and amazing experience of being a nanny to a little boy who has become my daughter's first and best friend, so there are so many sweet memories that it's hard to choose.
I do always love when he is excited to share something that he has learned or a craft that he has made with his mommy and daddy when they get home.
