Also I feel it is important to create a healthy connection with the child so that the child is comfortable with you and is excited when they are in your care. It is important to create behavioral boundaries but also create fun playful spaces that the child looks forward to.

One time when I was volunteering as a teachers assistant, I was helping a child with his speech impediment and he pronounced a sound that he had never been able to before. It was so beautiful to watch his face light up!
