A little bit about me

Hello, my name is Angela. I started my career out in the US Navy at age 18. After many years in the Navy, I stepped away to support my husband‘s Naval career, take care of our home and start a family.

My children are grown and pursuing their dreams and goals. At this time in my life, I want to work in an area that brings me joy and I feel like I'm contributing to society.

In the words of Whitney Houston, I believe the children are the future. The mindset of the men and women of the future is a direct result of how they are nurtured, taught, and the examples that they see from those around them.

It brings me joy to be a part of contributing to a child's outlook on life, on themselves and others, and help them to see their greatest potential!

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

My experience with childcare includes, managing a babysitting service, starting at the age of 13, before leaving home to join the US Navy, at the age of 18. I’m still in touch with the newborn I took care of for the first five years of her life. I was a girls scout troop leader. I raised five sons, as a stay home mom. I ran a daycare in my home for three years. I taught Sunday school at our church and cared for the children at the MOPS (mothers of preschoolers) meetings.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Oh goodness, where do I begin! When I was running my daycare, I had activities throughout the day, learning STEAM concepts (science, technology, engineering, art, and math).

Let’s start with Art. We would explore and create pieces from the different genres, such as painting, sculpting, photography, music, etc.

We would explore science, technology, engineering, and math, through play, which enables greater retention of the knowledge.

I believe it’s important for children to be outdoors. Whether exploring their own backyard or at a park. We would participate in activities such as, sporting activities, learning about botany (growing a plant from a seed), a walk in the park, etc.

The many different activities would be altered to fit a child’s age. Such as, in music, a 7 year-old could learn to play the guitar, wear a 1 year-old would make music on a xylophone.

The list goes on! There are so many wonderful learning activities that children can participate in.

The most important part about being a nanny...

It’s important for nannies to make sure the children they are caring for are safe, eating healthy food, participating in activities that help them physically and mentally, and to make sure they have enough free time for creative thinking.

That being said, the most important thing about being a nanny is to listen and observe the child, in doing so you’ll discover who they are as an individual, what kind of things they are interested in and to also introduce them to new concepts and ideas as they explore the world.

My experience with special needs children...

the only experience I have with working with special needs children is, during the summer of 1978, when I was 16 years old.

I worked at an Easterseal camp, Camp Challenge, in Sarasota, Florida. For the entire summer, myself and another counselor, cared for eight girls and women in our cabin.

There were three sessions throughout the summer. Elementary aged children, high school aged children, and adults.

The training was quite detailed, giving us the knowledge and tools on how to care for the many specific needs and disabilities of the incoming campers.

I often think of that time and realize what a valuable experience that was for me, at the age of 16, just before I headed out into the world, as a young woman.

The most important part about being a nanny...

My favorite nanny/teacher moment is when a child discovers something that brings them great joy. Children are much smarter than we give them credit for.

The purpose of a man or a woman can reveal itself in early childhood. It’s important for those that are caring for children to listen and observe. In doing so, we can help to guide them so that they can fulfill their dreams and goals later in life.

I have a son that is an artist. I recognized his love for art at an early age, and as he grew up, I made sure he had the proper tools to nurture his talent. He is now a freelance artist.

I have another son that is a reporter. I noticed his gift for communicating with people and being very personable at an early age. I was even told by a teacher that my son asked too many questions. Ironically, now he makes a living asking questions.
