I was a coach at a soccer camp where I was looking after groups of kids between ages 5-17, and the group sizes ranged from one child to 15-20 kids.

The most important part about being a nanny...
is respecting the parents values/morals and making sure to continue to teach and guide the child/children the same way as the parents do. Also, making sure the child/children feel respected and loved!
My experience with special needs children...
I worked at a University/Hospital in a research center that was researching Batten Disease. It depended on the stage of the disease, but most of the children had lost the ability to walk, talk, see, feed themselves, and, as such, needed round the clock care. My interactions were usually only about an hour with them, but again, it depended on the stage of the disease if they did interact with me.
The most important part about being a nanny...
At the little girl's fourth birthday party, she was running around "introducing" me to everyone as her best friend instead of babysitter! She's 6 now, but still will say I'm her best friend, except she makes sure to include babysitter, and that she's obviously not a baby!
