Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I was a medical assistant at a psychiatric practice, where our patient base is probably 1/2 pediatric, and 1/2 split between adolescent and adult patients. I am also a TA at my university, although most of the “children” are 16-20 year olds!
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Playing games/cards, coloring, reading, learning age appropriate material, going outside, taking walks, and planning little outings.
The most important part about being a nanny...
Being patient, being able to act silly and have fun with the kids, always modeling good behavior/interactions when the kids are around, and being a truly loving and caring person who enjoys getting to know each child as an individual!
My experience with special needs children...
My most recent nannying position required care for one special needs child, a 3 year old girl with ASD. I have also worked closely with special needs populations (children and adults) in the mental healthcare setting.
The most important part about being a nanny...
My favorite experience was probably taking a group of my 3 nephews and 1 niece hiking. It was a little challenging to keep up with so many little ones in an outdoor space, but such a fulfilling learning experience. Watching all of the kids get excited and interested in nature was amazing, and I loved answering all of their great questions. I am passionate about learning and teaching, so this is definitely one of my favorite memories.
