My experience with special needs children...
I was a paraprofessional for a few years and worked directly with a variety of skill sets and needs. I was rotated daily through the behavioral needs classroom, the high needs classroom, and in general education classrooms as a 1-on-1 helper for students. In high-school, I was given permission to assist in the special education department as the staff found me to be proficient and constructive in their classrooms. I also took several courses in the special needs field in college.
