Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I have raised my 11 year old sister her entire life but I started “babysitting” her about 4 years ago when I graduated highschool and moved out! I also had a neighbor that had a 3 year old nonverbal autistic son that I regularly babysat during the week. I am considered the babysitter or “kid handler” in my family whenever we have big gatherings or if anyone needs me!

The most important part about being a nanny...
nurturing and nurturing with passion! if you don’t have those factors you won’t be able to keep control of the patience and calmness you need to carry at all times. i don’t believe just anyone can be in the caregiving field, you need to have a desire to do it to be able to give the utmost respect and best service you can!
My experience with special needs children...
nonverbal autism is a very difficult thing to grasp and understand from a child. it’s also very heartbreaking to watch the emotional damage the child suffers from not knowing how to speak. I can say the little boy i babysat is now 5 and can speak full sentences, very shy and timid, but so much more of a fun kid than the confused and distraught boy i had first seen. i like to think I helped progress it by practicing with him!
The most important part about being a nanny...
I took my sister after early release from school to go swim at the waterfalls. We had lots of falls and shared laughter. the water was way too cold to swim so we went exploring through the woods and found a real cool stone wall that was hidden in the forest. the stone wall had a water fall coming off of it and there was a creek that ran beside the big river. We had been there numerous times and have never known that beautiful place was hidden back there!
