My little sister, who is now 13 years old, has always been cared for by me. Due to an unfortunate situation I’ve always been like a mother to her, and I’ve carried that into caring for other children. I’m always the preferred babysitter for friends and family, but I wouldn’t have it any other way!
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
My favorite indoor activities with children are arts and crafts, playing pretend/dress-up, high energy games such a tag, and i love playing video games with kids who have a knack for it! As someone who was raised outdoors doing hiking and camping I am all for those activities outside! However, I am very attentive when it’s a pool, beach, or any public spaces.
The most important part about being a nanny...
The most important part of being a nanny is balance. You must connect with the child, and at the same time enforce the rules of the parent to keep them safe. There’s moments where you connect deeply because of that established respect and it’s very important for a child to learn boundaries, compassion, and most importantly themselves as growing little ones. I love playing a part in that emotional and cognitive growth of a child. When you truly care for a child they notice it instantly. It’s a wonderful feeling when I can make a child feel safe in my presence. Most importantly when the parents feel that confidence in you and give you more responsibility with the child. The connection and balance of the relationships is the best part of being a nanny, especially as a psychology major who’s so interested in human growth and development.
My experience with special needs children...
During my time in high school that I studied to be a CNA and EKG Technician I had to deal with disabilities, special needs, and such from all ages. I was in a club for two years called HIP where we taught freshman students about mental health, sexual education, and drug prevention. I taught one class that was only special needs and connected with the students very profoundly after teaching them.

When a 8-year old girl was in my care and I bought her a couple of toys at Five Below, she didn’t have enough allowance, then she told her mom about it afterwards. They bought me flowers and a card thanking me that same day. The reason it touched me so deeply was because the girl said I was a great big sister. It was such a sweet moment and it has stayed with me for a long time.
