A little bit about me

I have been working in child care in some capacity for 15 years; from babysitting to being a summer camp director to teaching k-8 music and most recently as a lead pre-k teacher. I'm a University of Michigan graduate and am completing my final year of seminary at Earlham School of Religion. Due to COVID concerns I would like to move from the classroom environment to nannying positions. I am used to being the only male teacher/childcare provider in any given space and have fallen into a role of working with children who experience neuroatypicality most notably the autism spectrum and ODD. Before settling into childcare I worked as a touring musician and visual artist and love sharing my passion for arts and culture with children.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love all kinds adventures with kids from little ones exploring a park of neighborhood to bigger ones like the zoo or museums.

Before coming into childcare full time I was a professional touring musician and visual artist. I am all ways excited to see kids expressing their creative sides whether it's something as simple as scribbling with crayons or as complicated as building a set on which to perform a dramatic reenactment of a kids favorite story.

I grew up in the woods of norther Michigan as a 'free range child' and get so much joy from watching children get as excited about every tree, stream, cool rock or animal as I was/am.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Creating a safe space for children to explore and experience the world and their imaginations.

My experience with special needs children...

I'm currently the teach a pre-K class with multiple students on the Autism Spectrum and one with ODD. I have been working closely with parents on developing and implementing care plans for the students as well as assisting with development assessments and mental health professionals.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I took a group of kids on a rainy day adventure to go turn over logs and look at worms, when one kid was about to grab a worm when one of the kids who has a history of struggling to communicate stopped the kid about to grab the worm to say "worms are our friends and we need to not pick them up... besides she is just trying to do worm stuff"... which was something I had said a week prior and had no idea that the kid was even listening.
