A little bit about me

I am an online college student and a Behavior Technician for children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. Prior to this, I was a nanny both privately for families and on-call through an agency. I have experience working with infants all the way through high school aged children of all abilities levels. I have a younger sister who is considered severely disabled and growing up with her has taught me how to be empathetic and fun.

I am patient and level-headed. I encourage curiosity, confidence, and independence in the children that I work with. I take genuine interests in the interests of children in my care. I know how to create learning opportunities in the child's natural environment and play space.

I am CPR and First Aid certified. I have taken training courses on infant care, seizure care, and safe driving.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

My first official job (besides babysitting cousins as a teen) was face painting for children's parties. This kickstarted my dive into the career of childcare. I then nannied for a few years across many households with a mixture of private nannying and working through an agency. I gain experience with ages 0-13 during this time and was exposed to a mixture of family dynamics and ability levels. After this, I became a behavior technician working with children and teens both in home and in clinic settings. During this time I gained experience working with ages 2-19 diagnosed with autism.

The most important part about being a nanny...

You have to be able to adapt to and understand every child you work with. You must genuinely care about the children you're responsible for. You need to have a naturally compassionate personality.

My experience with special needs children...

I have always been exposed to the special needs community as my sister was born with brain damage and partial paralysis. I was a secondary caretaker for her in my teen years. Professionally, I have nannied for multiple families who have special needs children, primarily autism, and have volunteered in classroom and community settings. I am also currently a behavior technician who works with children and teens on the autism spectrum.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I took care of a 5 year old boy with ASD and he loved American Ninja Warrior. He struggled with communication but one day when he wanted to be picked up to do a trick he ran up to me and shouted "ninja!" with the biggest smile. I immediately scooped him up and he showed me his awesome trick (with careful supervision of course).
