Apart from being a nanny for the majority of 2021, I have also worked with children from ages preschool through high school at NC Stage for summer camp. My duties included watching the children, helping them with their dances and crafts and playing games with them.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I enjoy playing with children as well as teaching them about the world around them. I believe it’s very important to play with the children because it shows them that you listen and care about what they have to say. I also think it’s important to take every opportunity to teach children about the world they live in so that they can be more prepared for school and their future. I would play with the boys on the playground or in the backyard, I would take every chance I had to teach them things about nature or colors. I taught the three year old how to spell his name and as well as his primary and secondary colors and I taught the two year old words, colors and animals.

The most important part about being a nanny...

The most important thing about being a nanny is to make sure that the children don’t just feel watched but cared for. They should feel appreciated, listened to, nurtured, comforted, encouraged and challenged. A child’s mind is like a sponge and a huge and important part of being a nanny is making sure they are soaking up all the right things that will help them grow into strong adults.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I have many favorite memories but one of my favorite memories as a nanny was when I taught three year old Owen how to spell his name. He had recently learned his ABC’s so I knew he had the knowledge to understand how his name would be spelled. So I set the spelling and of his name to a short tune which I repeated multiple times to him. Before the day was over he was proudly spelling his name to any who would listen.
