More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I have been working with children for the past 10 years. My high school had an early education program, which is where I began my childcare journey. I had babysat for family friends and it was genuinely something I enjoyed! Following into college, I worked with AmericaReads as a tutor for children part time for my work study, as well as simultaneously working a job at Family Services Association as a group Lead at a daycare. I mainly worked with ages 5-13y, however during school vacations, I filled in at WORD, a daycare for ages 1 month-4years. I was employed with FSA for 3 years before transitioning into Nannying, and I’ve been a Nanny ever since! I have been a Nanny for the last 7 years and have experience with ages 2 months-14 years. Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I am very much into everything which is the best part of nannying! I love being active and outdoors, going to libraries, museums, acting, singing, dancing, and learning new things. I am not afraid to be silly or have fun! I also like to read, make crafts, paint, do puzzles, play board games, etc.

The most important part about being a nanny...

The most important part about being a nanny is building a trusting relationship with a child, where they feel confident, loved, and supported. A Nanny should be compassionate, genuinely love, and love being around children. Engaging in their interests/hobbies, being silly, actively listening, helping them solve problems, etc. should all be things you enjoy not just part of a job. It makes all the difference to the children and overall quality of "work". I am the Nanny/Aunt/Cousin who is included in all the kids activities whether its jumping on trampolines, hide & seek, imaginary play, and I love it.

My experience with special needs children...

I have experience working with children with different behavioral and developmental differences, including but not limited to ADHD, Autism, Down Syndrome, etc. Some children have IEP's and/or therapists that I've worked closely with to ensure the best support is being provided and consistent. I enjoy finding creative outlets that work for each child and feel purpose and rewarded in fostering in their development and growth. For example, I had been a Nanny for a child with Autism who was overwhelmed by cleaning up. Instead of labeling it as a chore, I would break it into smaller steps, having fun along the way. Days I noticed he had a lot of energy, I'd count have fast he could get the balls in the basket, then cars in the garage, and he loved racing against time. Less energetic days, we would sing the clean up song or use other things he enjoyed as a reward or next activity. Earning rewards like extra movie time was important to him.

The most important part about being a nanny...

is when one of the children and I were sitting at the table after school and she couldn't wait to pull out a paper. It was an essay about a favorite or important person in her life and she chose to write about me! I had just been her nanny a couple of months and it was super rewarding feeling.
