A little bit about me

Hi! My name is Brook (Rylnn) Chavez, and I’m a 2nd year student at the University of Southern California majoring in Intelligence and Cyber Operations. I was born and raised in New Mexico, and I’ve been passionate about child care and development for as long as I can remember.

I’ve served as a children’s church volunteer at Victory Outreach, as a daycare assistant at Play to Learn Early Developmental Center and currently work as a ReadersPLUS literacy and math tutor at USC.

I am CPR and First Aid certified and have completed the Early Care, Education, and Family Support 45-Hour Course: Foundations in the Seven Basic Competencies.

This summer I’ll be home in Albuquerque and am looking to support families who need a responsible, warm, and organized nanny or sitter. I’m comfortable with homework help, bedtime routines, and keeping your home tidy while I’m with your kids. Relevant experience where I also cared for children includes over 10 years of service in my church’s children’s ministry at Victory Outreach, where I help lead lessons, supervise kids, and support families during services.

I have worked as a daycare assistant at Play to Learn Early Developmental Center, helping with daily routines, play-based learning, and maintaining a safe, nurturing environment for young children.

I currently serve as a ReadersPLUS literacy and math tutor at the University of Southern California, providing one-on-one support to 2nd grade students to build their reading and math skills and confidence.

Across these roles, I’ve developed strong skills in supervision, communication, behavior management, and creating fun, structured activities for kids of different ages!

Activities I enjoy doing with children include lots of arts and crafts, from simple coloring and sticker projects to more creative DIY activities that let kids express their personalities. I love planning age-appropriate projects that build fine motor skills and confidence while keeping things fun and low-stress.

Because of my experience as a ReadersPLUS literacy and math tutor at USC, I also enjoy weaving in gentle academic support such as reading stories together, practicing sight words, or turning basic math into games and real-life activities.

I’m a big believer in limiting screens when possible and helping kids stay engaged through hands-on, imaginative play, outdoor time, and activities that match their interests, whether that’s crafts, building, pretend play, or homework help!
