More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I have taught in a behavioral health high school where I assisted in the science classroom and assisted in the emotional regulation and academics of the students. I also taught for NESS for 3 years as Americorps and a Marine Educator over the summer, working with all age groups. I have working in other forms of babysitting and childcare since 14 at churches with up to 35 children and in homes with fewer.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I enjoying being outside as much as possible. Especially if we are able to go swimming or play a sport of some sort. I grew up playing loads of board and card games, so those are always on the table as well. Having done experiential/hands on teaching for summer camps and in classrooms, I will often also bring fun lessons into babysitting without the kids knowing it.
The most important part about being a nanny...
The most important part about being a nanny is having patience. Each family is different and has different expectations for their children, and each child is different and requires different versions of interaction. Without patience you can miss out on important moments in the kids’ world, and the job would overall be a lot harder. Patience with a sprinkle of go with the flow is key to making and keeping important connections with little ones.
My experience with special needs children...
I have worked with children of varying abilities from down syndrome and non verbal autistic, to children who’s emotional regulation abilities are just harder than others.
The most important part about being a nanny...
My favorite nanny/sitter moment is when I was with a family long enough to watch the youngest start walking for the first time. It was such a precious moment to be able to observe and know the child long enough to be able to fully appreciate that mile stone with the family.
