A little bit about me

I am new to the Boone area and looking for another family to nanny for! I have five years of paid childcare experience both as a nanny and as a camp director with Girl Scouts.

I have a car and live only 10 minutes North of App State's central campus. I am more than happy to drive your little ones to and from any activities they may have, to the store, or anything else you need!

I have also worked in many kitchens and cook a lot on my own time and would be happy to do meal preparation as you need. Additionally, I am very comfortable with pets (dogs, cats, gerbils, birds, etc). I have also worked in housekeeping before and can take care of your cleaning needs as you see fit!

Thank you, I hope we can connect soon!

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

My time working at Camp Mary Atkinson. At camp, I was a waterfront director for girls ages 4 to 17. I was with large groups of girls all day for six days a week either on the water, in the dining hall, or in our units winding down for bed.

I also have nannied for two different families. For my first family, they had three children (11 female, 9 male, and 5 male), and in my second family, they had twin girls (6 years old). I nannied with my first family for two years until their oldest got old enough to watch the younger two, and I nannied with the second family for almost a year up until my move at the beginning of January of 2024.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love cooking with children! I think cooking is a valuable life skill that everybody should learn and some of my best memories were in the kitchen with my grandmother as a kid. I love getting to make things that excite kids or that cater to their tastes, and I have seen many children very proud of their hard work getting to taste their very own food!

I also love water activities (of course, as a former waterfront director!). I think swimming is another very valuable skill kids should learn and I have supervised many children in the pool. Kids are so creative and it's so fun to get to see the games they can create with just a pool of water!

Lastly, another one of my favorites is art. Give a kid some construction paper and washable markers and their imagination will do the rest. I also love to draw and this simple activity as a kid spawned into a lifelong hobby for me. I love getting to see what children create and counseling them to be their best self!

The most important part about being a nanny...

To me, being a caregiver means making positive memories with these children. As an adult, I reflect a lot on my life and the things I value the most. Where did those things came from?

My love of cooking came from my grandmother who was a professional chef and tried to teach my brothers and I everything she knows. Every time I cook now, I remember all her little lessons.

My love of art comes from my oldest brother whose art I admired so much. I still cherish every time he returned to me with notes about how to improve and how well I was doing.

My love of the outdoors came from my father. Every time I hike, swim, or rockhound I think of us looking for big walking sticks and laughing at squirrels in the woods.

Those memories are what life is about, and I believe creating those memories with children is what they will cherish for the rest of their life. Being a caregiver isn't just about being present, it's about making the most of every day we're given.

My experience with special needs children...

While I have not had extensive experience with special needs children, I definitely have had some through my time nannying and being at camp.

The middle son of my first family was autistic and had a lot of little things that I had to learn to handle differently for him. There were certain foods he couldn't stomach, some activities that were too overwhelming for him, and times he needed his own time to decompress from the noise of the home. While it took some learning, I eventually learned how to recognize when he was needing time away and it became a lot easier to get his needs met.

I also worked with special needs children at camp. We had children with Down Syndrome, autism, POTS (postural tachycardia syndrome), full or partial blindness, epilepsy, and other disabilities. My job as waterfront director was to fit my activities to their capabilities and preferences.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I had this eleven year old named Scott at camp who I just loved so much. He was so funny and so sweet and would run up to me excitedly all week, sit with me at every single meal, it was adorable. We got to talking one day about our favorite shows and I told him that Vento Aureo was my very favorite show and he knew it and got extremely excited to talk about it. The next day when I went to breakfast, he ran up to me and drew me a picture of my favorite character with his little artist signature on it! I cannot tell you how happy I was. It is genuinely one of the cutest drawings I have ever seen. The next day on my three hour break, I drove to the store and bought a frame for it. I put the drawing back in my bag and brought it to dinner and showed Scott that I loved it to much I bought it a frame and I was going to hang it and his face just lit up. It was so cute. To this day, I still have that frame next to my nightstand! I will cherish it forever.

While babysitting, my responsibilities included making the children's lunches and dinners, bathing and getting them ready for bed, supervising playdates at homes, helping children with schoolwork, and also even taking them to the pool or any extracurricular activies for the day. They make me laugh, warm my heart, and occasionally teach me something new. Some of my hobbies and interests include playing tennis, being active and working out, journaling, reading, cooking, listeing to music and podcasts, and spending time outdoors.
