I began gaining childcare experience by helping care for younger family members and assisting a friend with her two younger siblings after school. I have since worked with other families, including regularly babysitting two young girls beginning when they were approximately 1 and 6 years old. I also provided one-on-one care for a nonverbal autistic young adult. My responsibilities included companionship, helping her use her iPad, preparing what she needed, assisting with personal care, administering medication according to her family’s instructions, and maintaining a safe and comfortable environment.

I love keeping children active and engaged through outdoor play, trips to the park, basketball and other sports, games, crafts, and activities based on their interests. I can also help with homework and enjoy finding activities that are fun, safe, and appropriate for each child’s age and abilities.

The most important part of being a nanny is making sure each child is safe, comfortable, respected, and genuinely cared for. I also believe parents should be able to leave knowing their child is with someone dependable who will follow their routines, communicate with them, and treat their child with patience and kindness.
My experience with special needs children...
I have both personal and caregiving experience with autism and different support needs. My nephew is autistic, and my younger cousin is autistic and nonverbal. During my senior year of high school, I also assisted in a life-skills classroom and discovered how much I enjoy helping students with special needs. In addition, I provided one-on-one care for a nonverbal autistic young adult. These experiences have taught me to be patient, attentive, flexible, and understanding of different ways of communicating. They also inspired my goal of becoming a special education teacher.
The most important part about being a nanny...
My favorite moments are when a child becomes comfortable with me, opens up in their own way, and is excited to see me again. Seeing children happy and knowing they feel safe and understood makes me happy too.
