Allowing the kids to be themselves and be comfortable in their own home. Also just allowing them to be kids in general and let them play and joke around but also keep a schedule in place to show responsibility.
My experience with special needs children...
I worked with autistic children 5-6 days out of the week for 10-hour shifts. We did a lot of learning programs on shapes, colors, numbers, and letters and discovered ways to make them fun. Helped me build a lot of patience and experience for low or high behaviors.
