Creating a safe and fun space for children. It is a privilege and honor to being trusted with a parents' entire world and trusted with their child or childrens safety both physically and emotionally.
My experience with special needs children...
Worked as a summer nanny and before/afterschool nanny for an 11 yo boy with ASD. Sweet boy was nonverbal and an eloper. My job was to safely take him to and from school and then his therapy. I played with him, prepared his meals and took him for bike rides. I helped mom make educational and communicative tools for her son and helped him with his workbooks.
The most important part about being a nanny...
One of my favorites is with a 9M baby boy who I had been caring for since he was 11M. It was bathtime and I was rubbing his back with soap playing lullaby music when he just looks up at me with his sweet eyes and hugs me. He stayed hugging me as i finished bathing him while occasionally lettg go to look back up at me. My shirt was completely soaked through for the rest of my shift but I will never forget how sweet that moment was for the rest of my life. So grateful for his trust and comfort, was the greatest reward.
