A little bit about me

Hello! My name is Cassie. I am a 55 year old 'granny' to a one year old precious girl(and one on the way) and mother to three, all college graduates and living their lives out to the fullest. I just moved to Indiana, my home state after living in North Carolina for the last 30 years. I am the youngest of seven girls, and now we are all back together! So many kiddos running around, so nice to see and be a part of! When my kids were little, I was a preschool teacher. Currently, I am substitute teaching part -time and I help out in the babies room at my church. I love kids and babies of all ages. My degree is in Language Arts and Early Childhood. I believe so much in early literacy activities. No age is too early! I would love a chance to meet you and see if I might be a good fit for your family!

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

We love kids and babies in our family. I have 18 nieces and nephews and 24 great nieces and nephews!!! When I was 20, I was a nanny to two girls, 8 and 4. Those were some of my most magical moments. My favorite time in my life is when my own children were babies. I volunteered in my kids classes. I was a babysitter and a preschool teacher many years back, and I recently went back to get my degree to teach. In NC, I taught 6th and 7th graders ELA and Social Studies. I am now currently substitute teaching all grades and I work in the baby's classroom at my church.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love reading books of all kinds to kids. I like having them create their own books as well. I like to garden with kids and do creative sorts of things. Last summer I was a teacher for camp and I taught them how to make a bouquet, splatter paint, and how to wrap presents. Any time I can use what I am doing at the moment to talk to them and connect, i would say that I enjoy that.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I think I am at the phase in my life now where I understand how important it is for parents to have a little reprieve in knowing that their child is being cared by someone who will give their utmost all to see that it is done right and that their child(ren) is loved.

My experience with special needs children...

Several of my students were special needs, autistic specifically. One student was highly verbal and so much fun. I realized what her triggers were and also what she really enjoyed. Often she would come to my class from next door if she needed to calm down. I let her sit at my desk and play music after her work. The other students were similar in that they had their particular ways that they had a heightened sensitivity over that we as teachers needed to be aware of and to honor and to work around. I realized if these students felt safe in their environment, then they could thrive. I have known many special needs children and adults. My nephew also has autism, so it really is just common to me. Yes, there are differences, but wonderfully so!

The most important part about being a nanny...

I loved when this little girl of 8 came home from school and read me her story all about her experiences with ME- her nanny! I was so touched that she spent so much time going into detail about all the fun things we did. I realized then just how much of a difference I had made in the life of a child.
