My experience with special needs children...
I grew up with a high functioning autistic brother a year older than me, and two younger autistic cousins. One is non-verbal and my other cousin is also high functioning. I worked with Chrysalis in Provo, Utah where I would do either daycare or overnight care for special needs young adults. There I would do enrichment activities with the girls, help guide house chores, help administer any medications and assist keeping the girls on a schedule. The girls I worked with have intellectual and/or physical disabilities, or autism.
The most important part about being a nanny...
At Chrysalis I was able to work with a young lady Annie. She has mobility impairments, she is nonverbal and she relies on 24 hour care. My favorite memory was her night routine. She had sets and sets of the cutest pajamas, and after I tucked her in bed, I was told she loves rom coms, so she had a whole set of all the best 2000s rom coms and she would help pick one to watch every night. She was the cutest, coolest girl ever.
