Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love engaging in creative activities with kids, like painting, drawing, dancing and playing music (I play guitar and will sometimes bring it along).
I also love taking kids to childrens museums, block parties and play dates.
If the parents are comfortable with it, I love hanging with the kids at the beach or the park!
I think winding down is also important, and that's where reading and chatting come in handy.

The most important part about being a nanny...
Safety, both physical and emotional. A close second would be trust and respect. I believe a nanny should be an extension of the parents and a true collaborator, doing whatever the parents need to ensure their children are happy, healthy and safe.
My experience with special needs children...
In college, I worked at a church daycare with a child who had PTSD-related special needs (mutism and behavioral challenges). She was very sweet and fun when she became comfortable.

The most important part about being a nanny...
The child was around 13 months old and was still getting the hang of talking. I said to her "You know what we are? We are best friends!" and she yelled, with all of her might, "BEST FRIEEEEEENDS!!!". It was such a sweet and silly moment.
