Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I have volunteered at Camp for All for two years now, which is a camp for children with disabilities. As a child, I attended this camp as a camper, so it is very dear to my heart. I also volunteer in my church in kids ministry, where I have cared for infants, preschoolers, and elementary-aged kids. Additionally, in high school, I was in a program called PALS, where I was partnered with four elementary and junior high kids that I would visit weekly to hang out with and create relationships with.
The most important part about being a nanny...
The impact I get to make on the kids I encounter is the most important part of nannying to me! Kids are at an age where it matters so much what people say and do around them. I want to be able to make a positive impact on these kids and allow them to be creative, grow, and discover who they want to be. I love giving advice and creating those relationships with them! Seeing kids grow and mature, knowing you have impacted their lives, is so impactful and encouraging.
My experience with special needs children...
One of the PALS that I was assigned was a seventh-grade girl who had physical and mental disabilities. I was never told her exact diagnosis; however, she was non-verbal, and she was in a wheelchair more often than not. Despite her disabilities, I was able to create a relationship with her and always enjoyed spending time with her. She would clap and smile every time she saw me, and she always made my day when I saw her. I would read her books and play with toys and sometimes assist her walking with her walker.
