Hi! My name is Chloe, I am 22 years old and getting married next year. I have over four years of hands-on experience working as a nanny for a family friend, starting at age 16 and continuing until I was 20. Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I’ve always loved doing creative and hands-on activities with kids. Arts and crafts were a big one; painting, drawing, making little DIY projects, because it lets them express themselves and have fun at the same time. I also enjoyed reading with them, especially turning it into something interactive by asking questions or letting them act parts out.
Outdoor time was important too. I liked taking them to the park, going on walks, or just playing simple games outside to burn off energy (especially helpful with ADHD kiddos). For quieter moments, we’d do puzzles, board games, or sensory-friendly activities depending on what each child needed. I always tried to choose activities that matched their personalities and helped them feel confident and engaged.

The most important part about being a nanny...

The most important thing about being a nanny is building trust. Kids need to feel safe, understood, and supported, especially when their parents aren’t around. Being that steady, dependable person in their day makes a huge difference. It’s not just about keeping them entertained or on schedule, it’s about showing up consistently, being patient, and creating an environment where they feel comfortable being themselves. When a child trusts you enough to open up, laugh freely, or come to you when they’re upset, that’s when you know you’re doing your job right.

The most important part about being a nanny...

One of my favorite nanny moments was when the parents couldn’t attend a family carnival event because of work, so I stepped in and took the kids. I helped them play the games, cheered them on, and we won a bunch of little prizes. The youngest won an alien hat and fully committed to the role, he spent the rest of the day pretending he was from outer space. Instead of shutting it down, we all joined in. When we got home, we built a giant “rocket ship” out of boxes and continued our space adventure. Seeing how excited they were just to have a trusted adult there supporting them meant everything to me.
