More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
[phone number hidden], I volunteered in my church nursery as much as they would let me, as well as visiting children in the nursery during services regularly growing up. Every summer from [phone number hidden], during vacation bible school, I had a blast teaching children songs and movements in the music room!
In 2002, a close family friend had a baby. I was the only person she trusted to leave her baby with other than her own family. Her daughter has epilepsy, Rhett’s syndrome, is nonverbal and will be for life. I continued to be the only person she trusted to care for her throughout her childhood other than her immediate family. I cared for her periodically for about a decade.
In 2005, I worked as a teacher’s helper in an after school program, helping 1st graders with their homework, arts and crafts, administering snacks, and overseeing playground and library time, as well as bathroom breaks.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...
If they’re tiny, I just make sure their needs are met. When they are ready for interaction, I really try to focus on their development! I love reading them books and singing songs to them, such as the alphabet song! Another thing they seem to like is learning animals and their sounds. I talk to them in a simple way as to not overwhelm them. For instance, when we are playing, I will say the color or shape of something and point it out to them. I also like taking them for walks or monitoring outdoor play, if the parent is comfortable with that, at any age!
When they get a little older, I love monitoring them playing with play doh because it is so great at helping them develop their fine motor skills!
If they are the right age, I would love to help them learn how to write their name, and color with them! I really love playing board games, putting together things like lego or kinex sets, and doing fun little science experiments! I’m pretty much up for anything that is parent approved!

The most important part about being a nanny...
To me, the most important part of being a nanny is making sure the child or children know you are a safe person! They should feel safe around you and valued by you. I want them to know and feel that I truly care about them as much as their parents do, so they will feel every bit as safe with me, in every way possible, as they do with their parents!
My experience with special needs children...
I have cared for children on the Autism spectrum on countless occasions! I have also cared for children with different needs, some of which are extremely rare syndromes, and some of which are less rare. My experience outside of the Autism spectrum covers Angleman syndrome, 1p36 deletion syndrome, Optic nerve hypoplasia, Rett syndrome, Epilepsy, Hydrocephalus, ADHD, Tourette syndrome, Bipolar disorder, Cerebral Palsy, Dyslexia, and I could be forgetting something! I have extensive experience with feeding tubes, choking hazards, physical, speech, and occupational therapy, sensory issues, and many physical and cognitive delays.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I have so many! Most recently, a two year old I babysat for the first time, reached her arms out to me as if she wanted me to hold her, while her dad was holding her, less than 5-10 minutes after I arrived. It was so shocking! Then about 5-10 minutes later, right before the parents walked out the door, the little girl holds her arms up toward me, while standing in front of me, and says “hold you”! Her mom was in awe! They were so nervous because it was their first time leaving her with a sitter instead of family, but they felt better before they even left!
There was another time I watched a 5 month old who had never had a sitter before. We bonded so strongly and got along so well, after her parents came home, while her father was holding her, as I grabbed my purse and headed to the front door she started crying and reaching her arms out to me! It was so sweet!
My favorite thing in general though is seeing that twinkle in their eye when they get excited they learned something new!
