A little bit about me

Hi. My name is Christine and I'm 54 years old. I was a stay-at-home mother for 16 years to raise our five children. We homeschooled for a few of those early years. When I joined the workforce I worked with special ed children in the school district preschool. I learned so much about how to work with and educating young children. I did that job for 5 years and then turned to a a full-time position working with mentally, emotionally, physically, disabled or handicapped individuals 18 years and older. I learned even more from the contrast and from the things that actually work with both groups. I nannied in college for 3 years and I started to do Nanny work again about 4 years ago. I absolutely love what I do. I loved it when I was in my twenties and 30s, and I'm blessed to be able to return to it in my 50s and moving forward. Thank you.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I was the oldest of four children and was left in charge of them quite often. I babysat all through high school and in college was a nanny for 4 years. I then had and raised five children. I homeschooled them for their early years before putting them back into the public schools. Once they were all in school I worked for Detroit Lakes School district preschool as a special education assistant. These students were assimilated in with the rest and I was given opportunities to lead groups in different activities. I also learned many teaching, learning, cool down, and deescalating skills and tools. After working in group homes I worked as a therapist at the autism center in Minneapolis. After that I began my nanny career. I have now been working as a nanny for over 4 years.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Learning games, pretend play, reading, singing and music, movement and dance, cooking and baking, fine motor skill practice, obstacle courses for gross motor scale practice, outside playing in the fresh air, practicing manners, practicing self-soothing and self-emotional regulation.

The most important part about being a nanny...

First and foremost is to keep the children safe. Next, behave in a way that exudes trust, kindness, safety, allowance for mistakes and forgiveness, enjoyment on your part, living to be with them and importantly, following the guidelines the parents have set to aid consistency.

My experience with special needs children...

Autism, CP, attachment disorder, TBI, Down's Syndrome, deaf and/or mute, ADD, ADHD, Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, Dyslexia, random rage outbursts, defiant disorder, and quite a few more.

Is when any of the children I've raised, babysat for friend, taught, or nannied, have independently expressed to me positive feelings about our time together!
