Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
My origins as a Professional Nanny began back in my home town of Melbourne, Australia in 2010 where I cared for 3 darling and clever boys whose parents were both highly regarded in their medical professions. My first introduction and blossoming interest in being responsible and caring for young children begun the moment I became a big sister, whether it was one of my five siblings or younger cousins and friends I have always been drawn to nurturing young children. After completing high school and working part-time at cafe's I realized my natural passion for the care and wellbeing of children could also be a career and so I enrolled in Early Childhood Education & Care program to become certified. This program also included an intermediate 3 week work experience in a childcare centre. I was allocated in a room for for 18 m.o - 3 yrs, with a group of 10 children. This experience is what lead me to follow my wish to become a Full Time Nanny which began this fruitful journey.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
anything arts & crafts related, sharing new and old experiences such as visiting museums or zoo's, playing at the playground, using everyday activities for learning such as pointing out words or sights when on walks. A child's imagination is the blueprint to who they are and it's a wonderful place to be apart of!
The most important part about being a nanny...
is providing a consistent, playful, safe and grounding environment where I am able to cater to the emotional, physical, creative and mindful needs of the child and their families wishes on what that may look like. Communication is so very important between carer and parents/guardians and I am always honest and upfront about my approach to each family I have the pleasure of working with. Taking care of a child is a team effort and I consider it an honor when I am chosen to be apart of said team!
My experience with special needs children...
I worked with one family whose son was in the beginning stages of being diagnosed with Autism - it was one of my most challenging jobs as both the parents and I were tackling this in real time and ultimately I knew I couldn't be the person they needed me to be for their child. They needed someone with experience to ensure his next stages through life was with understanding and the required skill set.
The most important part about being a nanny...
is the first piece of artwork I ever receive from my kids with their little voices saying "I made this for you Claire" - simple and yet so sweet.
