A little bit about me

Hi my name is Clarissa, some say I explain it all ! I am a self starter, I am the daughter of an elementary school teacher and grew up volunteering in my church’s nursery, which I still participate in currently. I have worked in an Early Learning Center as well as worked for Arlington Public schools. Previously I have completed Childhood Development and Psychology courses at Old Dominion where I focused on Art Education and Graphic Design. Needless to say I am passionate about art and creativity as I believe expression is what makes us unique ! I am very much a dog person, I love swimming and played lacrosse and fencing in high school and college, so I’d say I’m loosely into sports ha ha. I love the outdoors minus spiders and enjoy organizing, cleaning and anything that keeps my hands busy when I am not drawing.

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

Cremè de la Cremè for 10 months working with infants and toddlers 4-18 months specifically.
Prince William county substitute K-5th grade for 5 months then moved to Dunn Loring Va in November and worked for Alexandria County Public Schools Substituting as well as working more regularly for the larger county of Arlington public schools K-12, Nov-present, primarily with elementary age

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love the outdoors, love a good park or in the summer going to school fields for games. I’ve tried museums recently with some of my reading age children as DC has so much to offer on summer days. My go to is going to the library to catch read alongs or trivia day. I have gotten into Pokémon go for some of my older kids to get them off traditional games/iPads and outside! I’ve introduced geo hunting (app interactive scavenger hunt)to my kids as well. My favorite thing Art projects, whether sensory and tactile art projects that increase fine motor skills or are just wacky, wet water colors for older antsy kids, as I studied elementary art in college.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Creating an overall peaceful environment. Peaceful in communication, maintaining environmental and emotional consistency for the child while promoting stages of development.

My experience with special needs children...

My experience is limited honesty. I have completed coursework in psychology and early childhood development and my exposure is limited to substituting in special needs classrooms in pre-K and kindergarten as well as other elementary grades only for Arlington and Alexandria Public schools
