A little bit about me

Hi! My name is Colleen, and I’m a dedicated childcare provider with a strong background in pediatric healthcare. Before transitioning into nannying, I worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) specializing in pediatrics, where I gained hands-on experience caring for children of all ages—from infants to adolescents. This experience taught me not only how to meet children’s physical and emotional needs but also how to respond calmly and confidently in medical or high-stress situations. Caring for children is my passion and gives me purpose, being able to create a safe place for them to learn, grow, and become the person they are meant to be.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I bring a well-rounded background in childcare, combining professional medical training with hands-on experience as both a nanny and babysitter. As a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) with a focus in pediatrics, I provided direct care to children in clinical settings—monitoring vital signs, assisting with daily activities, and supporting children with a range of medical and developmental needs. This experience strengthened my ability to stay calm under pressure, respond quickly in emergencies, and approach every child with patience and empathy.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

One of my favorite parts of working with children is creating meaningful, age-appropriate experiences that spark curiosity, creativity, and joy. I love planning immersive activities that meet kids where they are developmentally—whether that means sensory play for little ones, hands-on crafts for curious preschoolers, or engaging adventures for school-aged children.

I’m a big believer in the power of being outdoors, and I try to incorporate nature into our days whenever possible. For older children, I enjoy planning outings around the city that help them learn and discover new things in a fun, interactive way.

At home, I tailor activities to each child’s interests—whether it’s baking together, building imaginative worlds with blocks or dress-up, or setting up creative art projects that allow kids to express themselves. I love finding teachable moments in everyday activities and encouraging children to try new things with confidence and curiosity.

The most important part about being a nanny...

The most important part of being a nanny is building a deep connection based on empathy, trust, and creating a safe space. Every child has unique needs and emotions, and tuning into those with understanding helps them feel seen and supported. Empathy means recognizing feelings behind behavior and responding without judgment. When children trust you, they feel secure enough to express themselves and explore confidently.

Creating a safe environment—emotionally and physically—means setting loving boundaries and allowing space for all feelings, even the hard ones. This safety encourages growth, helping children become resilient, confident, and independent at their own pace. As a nanny, I’m both a steady presence and a cheerleader, celebrating progress and fostering trust so children can thrive. For me, nurturing these qualities is the heart of caregiving and the greatest reward.

My experience with special needs children...

As a pediatric Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), I’ve had the privilege of working closely with children of all abilities, including those with developmental, cognitive, and physical challenges. My experience in both clinical and home care settings has equipped me to offer personalized, compassionate support that meets each child’s unique needs.

I’ve cared for children with autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, sensory processing disorders, and other medical conditions requiring mobility, feeding, or medication assistance. My training allows me to manage medical routines with professionalism while ensuring children feel safe, valued, & empowered.

In childcare settings, I create inclusive, structured environments where every child can thrive. I emphasize communication, patience, & consistency, tailoring activities to support emotional, social, & developmental growth.

Above all, I’m dedicated to respectful care that nurtures confidence, joy, & a strong sense of self in every child.

The most important part about being a nanny...

One of my favorite nanny moments was a sunny summer day spent adventuring through some of Chicago’s best spots with the kids. We started at the Museum of Science and Industry, where their eyes lit up exploring the interactive exhibits. Watching their curiosity come alive and hearing them ask thoughtful questions was such a joy.

After the museum, we headed to Lincoln Park for playtime. The kids ran off some energy on the playground, made up their own games in the grass, and even tried to spot turtles near the pond. It was one of those carefree afternoons where laughter came easily, and everyone was completely in the moment.

To wrap up the day, I surprised them with a stop at Cold Stone Creamery. They got to pick their own mix-ins, and we sat outside enjoying our ice cream while they told me their favorite parts of the day. It was simple, but so special—just one of those sweet, happy days where everything felt magical through their eyes.
