The most important part about being a nanny...
Is unconditional love. To bond and allow them to build trust for my love and feelings for them. More than anything they need to know they can depend on me when I am there. I want to be their friend, and confidante.....not their parent.........but someone they can count on and lean on and laugh with. ALWAYS
My experience with special needs children...
I taught, so I have worked with 'focus issues' with ADD and ADHD children many times. I also taught camps for disabled children in summers.
The most important part about being a nanny...
My actual Nanny experience was vast with own family..........but my favorite moment was teaching preschool with 2-3 year olds.
I let each child lay down on a large roll of paper, 3 feet in height ......to teach colors, after tracing their body onto the paper...life size I asked guided each one to color themselves; match their clothes and hair, etc. I came to a little fellow named Josh....I said "Josh now it is time to color your eyes.....so we need to color your eye BROWN....can you find the BROWN?" He nodded and picked it up. I replied, "VERY good Josh.....now.....color your eyes BROWN!!" And at THAT....he stuck the crayon directly on he eyelid sooooo fast!!! I said " Oh I am so sorry Josh!!! I meant your eyes on the picture of you!!" I laughed and cried and realized that day how literal small ones are!!! so.......the biggest lesson of THAT day was for ME!! Definitely one of the best!!
