A little bit about me

My name is Curtis. I live in Fort Collins and just graduated High School. I am a responsible and hardworking person who does their best on everything. In my free time, I enjoy playing tennis, chess, and swimming. I also love serving the community and being a volunteer. I have been a volunteer assistant coach at the Chessmates club for 2 years where I worked with young kids who were beginners. I mainly taught them basic concepts of chess and monitored the kids to make sure they were having a fun, safe time. I have also volunteered in the Council Tree Library in Fort Collins and helped out with the Summer Reading Challenge Program for a few years. In this program, I helped young kids/families register for the challenge, answered questions, and handed out prizes to those who reached their reading goals and milestones. At Fossil Ridge High school, I was the president of Chess Club where we set up many activities and got many different people to enjoy and learn how to play chess.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I was an instructor at AlphaBEST education and I cared for a child who was 8 years old. Our class was playing dodgeball and the floor was wet, which caused him to trip and fall on the ground. Luckily, he didn't hit his head but he hurt his back pretty bad and was crying. So, I immediately went over to help me and gave him an ice pack for his back. I also made some small talk with him and encouraged him to overcome this injury and told him how superheroes like Batman, Superman, Captain America, and his favorite Spiderman always overcome their weaknesses and are strong. After that discussion, he felt better and finally had a little smile on his face. This experience really warmed my heart because it felt good to make him feel better and not cry anymore.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I enjoy doing outdoor activities with children like tag, soccer, football, and just about any sport. I also love playing board games like chess/monopoly and teaching them to do fun things like fuse beads and making bracelets and making drawings/crafts.

The most important part about being a nanny...

The most important part of being a nanny is looking after the children and meeting the needs of the parents as if the parents were at home taking care of their kids. Safety is my number one priority and after that, it is all about following the rules of the house made by the parents and having fun and putting a smile on the kids. When kids are safe and having fun, that truly makes me happy deep in my heart.

The most important part about being a nanny...

There was a time in 2019 where I had to babysit for my neighbor and me and his son (who was about 11 years old) was struggling with some math and I ended up teaching him math and we played some multiplication games and found fun ways for him to learn the content and truly understand it. Not only did the 11 year old son understand and like math, but it also put a smile on his face and gave him something to look forward to doing every day.
