A little bit about me

Hi Families! I am a career nanny in the Boston area, focusing on infant and toddler care. I have a Bachelors degree in Maternal Child Health and Human Lactation and am a Board Certified Lactation Consultant. I was a Child Passenger Safety Technician for 7 years, am CPR certified and have trained as a babywearing consultant and postpartum doula.
As a nanny, I feel it's most important to meet a family's needs as a whole, working collaboratively and seamlessly. As much as I work to meet the child's developmental needs, I am also supportive and encouraging of the parents as they navigate parenthood. I went to a Waldorf school as a child and that experience has guided me well as a nanny, leading me towards discovering the work of Magda Gerber and Janet Lansbury (respectful infant caregiving, RIE). I value keeping a daily rhythm and consistency, observing an infants competence, involving them in caregiving activities, and providing the space for uninterrupted play and freedom of movement.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

Manager of a toy store running all drop-in crafts, birthday parties, summer camps, play groups, and classes for ages birth through adult
Also a camp counselor at Camp Common Ground's sleep over family camp in Starksboro VT

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I strive to spend time outside daily (as long as the weather is safe to do so). I also make myself well connected within the community to search out play groups, friends, and activities. Throughout the day, we keep a daily rhythm (routine) that includes developmentally appropriate activities, caregiving, and light household activities. I follow a lot of Janet Lansbury philosophies where caregiving (feeding, diapering, bathing, etc) and household tasks become an important and connecting part of our day. I observe with interest in their play, mostly without interruption, and give my full attention when they desire it. Respectful care and trusting an infants competence is at the core of what I do.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I think the most important part about being a nanny has to be about focusing on the entire family. Too often I see that nannies solely focus on the children. I feel that by valuing and providing support to a growing family as a whole, I am better able to meet the needs of the family I am working with. We work collaboratively as a team. I take parents concerns, wishes, goals, and more into consideration in my work. This is why I feel it's especially important to work side-by-side with parents as much as possible. I might be one of the few nannies that truly enjoys working with parents as much as I do working with the kids.

My experience with special needs children...

I am comfortable caring for infants with feeding difficulties as I am an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. I am also comfortable caring for infants who have been born prematurely and might have special needs surrounding their prematurity.
