My experience with special needs children...
I’ve care for one of my foster sisters who was 5 years old with autism. She was nonverbal, but over time I was understanding her. Since she was nonverbal we were told not to baby talk her and talk to her like a kid and she was picking up on certain words and in a house full of teenagers she caught on pretty fast. She was a picky eater but I got her to try new things like sour cream, different fruits and vegetables and diluted most of her drinks with water. And by the time it was time for her to go back home she was forming full sentences in only ten months.

My favorite babysitter/nanny moment was watching each baby I got to watch say their first words or finally be able to say my name correctly.
