I’m currently in school for education! I have always been the family babysitter for my own family since I was 15 and I’ve always been a volunteer to help with children of any age! I took care of a 9 year old autistic little girl 2 years ago and still help her with homework when she asks for it
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love baking, movie nights, building forts out of blankets, tea parties, playing soccer, basketball, dancing, football, puzzles, coloring, I don’t mind playing dolls neither! Anything fun or educational or even both is always the go to !
The most important part about being a nanny...
Creating a safe environment and bond with children, allowing them to be in their own space and helping them learn things as well. Being a nanny shouldn’t just be a “job” , as a nanny, I feel like you should make it a experience for you and the kids as well! For example, play with some multiplication cards and when they get an answer right, let them choose a treat out of your treat bag !
My experience with special needs children...
Autism, explosive disorder, OCD, ADD, dyslexia. Working with kids with ADD, the thing is to have fun while learning so their attention span doesn’t completely go wary. Explosive disorder is a little bit rough, but as long as you can get them in their room and let them calm themselves with something they love to do, it always works. OCD is never a problem, kids with OCD typically want to help you clean or bake and we always have fun doing one or both ! Autism is more complex because most don’t understand how autism works, or especially how kids with autism are incredibly smart and sensitive!
The most important part about being a nanny...
The best moment I’ve had was with a 7 year old little girl and her 8 year old brother, we made s’mores and built a little fort in her brothers room and we were going over homework before we all played Minecraft before bed (which is what the parents allowed because it was a calming effect for their son) well, we get the game set up and we all started playing. What we didn’t know was, he had us in survival mode instead of creative mode ! His sister and I were fighting zombies for 15 mins straight before he laughed and told us we were in survival, he had forgotten to put us in creative mode! Another moment is when I was babysitting a 2 year old girl and we were debating about what she wanted for dinner. All she wanted was french fries but I was trying to get her to maybe eat a grilled cheese or something else then just french fries! Well she goes “I’m the boss” it was the funniest and cutest thing I couldn’t help but turn my head and laugh!
