A little bit about me

Hi! I am a mom to a 6yr old boy and step mom to two teenage boys. Growing up my mother was a primary school teachers so I know tons of ways to entertain little ones. While I have never worked as a nanny, I have employed several and am fully aware of the dynamic. I can cook healthy, kid friendly meals (Any meal i prepare must have protein, Veggies/fruit, and a carb so children can get the necessary nutrients and learn to eat healthy.) I currently run my own store that sells mostly anime collectables and it makes it easy to relate to kids (because Pokemon.) Personally, I follow the gentle parenting technique with my kids and have had amazing results. I believe that positive reinforcement helps kids learn to redirect negative behavior while still feeling safe and that they can be honest with adults. For example, time out is not a punishment, rather a time to take a break, reevaluate their behavior, and think of another way to handle the situation that got them there.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I'm a mom (and was a SAHM for 6yrs) so I've been taking care of kids for a while, I also grew up helping my mom out with thinking up age appropriate activities for school and camp and would come in to my mom's work and help out with the kids during class. My younger days (starting at 11yrs old) were spent babysitting for children of various ages. I have also spent quite a bit of time looking after my friends children since I was 17yrs old to the present day. In my twenties, I ran a reading mentorship program for neighborhood Teens to get them excited about reading and help their school grades.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Arts & crafts, science experiments, music, dancing, soccer, tag, baseball, basketball, swimming (when it's warm out), driveway chalk games, coloring and puzzle books, catch, creative play (i.e. imaginative play scenarios with toys), and much more. I have no problem with video games as long as they're age appropriate but I do believe it's important to balance digital activities with real life experiences.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I believe that it really does take a village to raise a child. Kids pick up on the behaviors of adults in their life and i aim to be a positive influence where children feel safe, protected, and are encourage children to be themselves. Children are super fun and they absorb information so quickly that it's incredible to watch them grow and learn. Unfortunately, parents do need to work and I like the idea of helping someone who needs childcare while teaching and entertaining children.

My experience with special needs children...

My experience with special needs comes from assisting my mom while she taught special education (mainly autistic children.) Personally, I have been told that I am on the spectrum but very high functioning. I also only adopt special needs animals (physically, mentally, and emotionally) to help the have the best quality of life. So when it comes to special needs, I've had personal experience along with experience dealing with special needs children and animals. I can also prepare meals if a child has an aversion to textures or colors in food in a way that makes it fun and appealing (think piggy pancakes & colored pasta with butter. Stuff like that .)
While I am not first aid or cpr certified, I do know how to do first aid & CPR due to being taught by my child's father (who is a neurosurgeon.)

The most important part about being a nanny...

I didn't previously work as a nanny but as a babysitter, my favorite day was when the boy I was watching decided to be the red power ranger and that I was the pink one and we saved the world a few times that day. Two of my favorite activities that I do with my son are living room camp outs (set up a tent inside, make smores in the microwave, & tell "scary" stories) and our unicorn parties (we dress up as unicorns and eat unicorn themed food.)
