More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
For the past two years I have worked at the Georgia School for the Deaf as a Residential Assistant. My responsibilities are picking the children up from school, taking them to dinner, doing their laundry, tutoring during study hall, playing with them during free time, helping them shower and bush their teeth, and tucking them into bed. All the students that I work with are elementary to middle school age and live in the school dorm. They are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. We primarily use American Sign Language to Communicate. I have also worked at a church childcare center at Johnson Ferry Baptist Church. My responsibilities were caring for ages 2-3 during church events and weekly meetings. I would change diapers when needed, supervise during playtime, and prepare snacks.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love going on walks and being outside. I also enjoy arts and crafts.
The most important part about being a nanny...
What matters most is helping the child learn and grow. Children need language in order to develop a sense of self and thought. Working with Deaf and Hard of Hearing children is my passion and I hope that through American Sign Language development, children can learn and grow and build beautiful and strong relationships with their parents.
My experience with special needs children...
I have cared for Deaf and Hard of Hearing children, children with ADD or ADHD, children with language and learning delays, and children on the Autism spectrum.
The most important part about being a nanny...
One of my favorite moments was playing hide and seek with some of my deaf children. They forget that I can hear them sometimes, so when they hide they usually giggle. It is of course, very easy to find them because they are not very good at keeping quiet. It is always funny to me how surprised they are when I find them. Haha.
