I have cared for an autistic 7 year old for around 6 months. I have caregiving and RBT training. as well as my 5 younger siblings that I took care of.

I love to color with children, play ball, make a blanket for, play with playdough or tag. cooking simple meals and reading together.
The most important part about being a nanny...
safety is my number one. physical safety, mental safety and emotional. I will always prioritize the children's best wellbeing. crying is normal, it just means they're feeling overwhelmed and need help calming down. playtime is my second! children should be laughing and smiling 80% of the time! and they will be when we're hanging out!
My experience with special needs children...
I have cared for a nonverbal autistic 7 year old. He was extremely sweet very kind but he would have issues with communicating when he was done with something or when he was hurting or hungry. it was very hard for him to speak up for himself, him and I were working on separating ourselves from the situation and having a calm and quiet conversation.
The most important part about being a nanny...
My favorite moment withing with my last client was when he had decided that "Obby" was his new favorite game. we set up all the chairs and moved the toys so it was basically a racing track. and he would come to me and have me count down "3...2..1...GO!" but I was trying to teach him to be more flexible during game time so instead of go I would say his favorite words "3...2...1...PLANES!" and I would have him pretend to be a plane while he went through the course. It made me so happy when I saw him smiling and laughing we played dinosaur round and racecar round. he was having so much fun and he was being flexible with game time (which he had a hard time to do!) it was a great feeling.
