More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I am a recent preschool teacher. I've worked with ages 2-5 in a classroom of 12 with other teachers. I am well versed in positive discipline strategies and I use a gentle approach. I've worked in a play-base learning environment, using the philosophy of reggio emilia. I also have a letter of recommendation from my preschool director. I have been a nanny for over a year for two different families. With this, I've worked with 3 different children from ages 6 months to 3 years.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

A few activities I love to do are physical activity/going outside and learning about the environment around us. I also love activities where I let children help create a project with me. Whether that's making slime or lemonade, it's something I love to include them in, so they have something to feel excited and proud of creating.

The most important part about being a nanny...

For me, it's important for a child to feel safe and to feel trust in me, that way we can create a relationship where they can come to me for issue they may have. For instance, when a child is crying excessively, it is my duty to sooth that child, make sure they are in a comfortable safe spot to let their emotions out. I would also ask a lot of open-ended questions in order to understand what is behind a certain behavior they are having that day. This way I can create a game plan with the parents on how to combat this behavior and if there's any outside resources needed.

My experience with special needs children...

I have worked with a child who has developmental delays in their speech as well as with other children who have a lack or delay in their sensory-motor skills.

The most important part about being a nanny...

My favorite moment of was during nap time. There's a child who has a developmental delay, and for weeks I've tried to figure out how to put her to sleep or to keep her quiet during nap. Since she has delays, it's really difficult to communicate to her and for her to understand that it is nap time. I was finally able to put her to sleep one day using a puppet, since it kept her distracted enough to fall asleep. I felt so proud of myself in that moment and so connected towards the child because I was able to find a way to help sooth her and keep her quiet during nap.
