Hi! My name is Emily, and I’m moving to Charleston on January 1st to live with my boyfriend as he finishes his master’s program at The Citadel. I’m originally from Iowa and will be finishing my second degree online while taking three classes. I’m a kind, gentle, patient person who absolutely loves children and looks forward to being a mom one day. I grew up with a little sister who is nine years younger than me, and I always joke with my mom that I helped raise her- we’re still incredibly close. I also have a one-year-old dog who I adore. More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I nannied for two different families during two summers in high school, caring for kids of multiple ages and helping with meals, playtime, and daily routines. I also worked as a lifeguard, which taught me responsibility, awareness, and how to stay calm under pressure. Growing up with a mom who was a third-grade teacher meant I spent a lot of time around kids. I also helped take care of my younger sister, which gave me hands-on experience with older infant through school-age stages. I also have volunteered for my church every year for vacation bible school and for multiple weeks have fully led groups of students ages 3+.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love doing anything creative, active, or educational. Some of my favorite activities include outdoor walks, reading together, arts and crafts, helping with early learning basics, going to parks, playing games, building with blocks, and encouraging imagination through pretend play. I have always been a huge reader and love to read new books! I enjoy creating fun, engaging routines that make kids feel supported, excited, and safe. I also love involving kids in simple cooking or baking activities when appropriate.

The most important part about being a nanny...

To me, the most important part of being a nanny is creating a safe, loving, dependable environment where children feel cared for, understood, and encouraged. Kids thrive when they have consistency and someone who genuinely enjoys being with them, and I take that responsibility seriously. I see a nanny as an extension of the family, someone who supports the parents, respects their routines and values, and helps their children grow in the happiest, healthiest way.

My experience with special needs children...

While I do not have formal long-term special needs caregiving experience, I am patient, attentive, and quick to learn. I’ve supported children with mild behavioral or learning differences through volunteer work and feel very comfortable following routines, therapy recommendations, and communication preferences from parents. I always approach all children with empathy and a calm, encouraging presence.

The most important part about being a nanny...

My favorite nanny moments are always the little ones like when a child runs up to give you a hug, when they proudly show you something they learned, or when you see their confidence grow from something you helped them with. One moment that sticks with me is teaching a little girl how to swim and seeing her excitement when she finally floated on her own. I was a competitive swimmer growing up and enjoyed giving swim lessons as a part time job in high school. Being part of those milestones is something I truly treasure.
