A little bit about me

Greetings! I'm Emily. I have about 3 years of experience as a nanny/household manager, and about another year's experience in related childcare. I love hanging out with kids, watching/helping them learn, and hearing their thoughts. In addition, I gain great satisfaction from helping parents to organize their lives, schedules, and homes. It's not an exaggeration to say that I love to clean, plan, and organize.

My personality is calm, accepting, and definitely humorous, but also very straightforward and no-nonsense. I prefer clear and consistent expectations and protocols, yet with flexibility, as things can always change with time and knowledge.

I consider myself a person who enjoys being active. My favorite activities are dancing, hiking, basketball, and going to the gym.

Aside from physical activity, I love going to museums, aquariums, planetariums, etc, and I 100% identify as a nerd. I speak decent Korean and am working on Japanese, Mandarin, and Russian.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Making sure the children know I believe in them and recognizing their inherent strength and goodness. They should know that I trust them and am wholly invested in their happiness and safety.

My experience with special needs children...

My mom (now retired) was a Special Education teacher for most of my life (also ran a cleaning business). Before retiring, she worked in a residential facility for children with behavioral and/or learning disabilities, and, when I was about 18/19 years old, I would often volunteer to help out at the facility and on field trips. My work with the children was supervised as I've never received any kind of formal training nor certification for working with special needs children. So, while I do not consider myself to have any real qualifications for working with special needs kids, I do have some experience.
