My experience with special needs children...
I worked with a child with down syndrome for two years. (He was 1 when I started as his nanny.) I attended physical, occupational and speech therapy sessions with him each week. We worked together to practice the skills he learned in therapy in practical ways in his home. I have experience administering nutrition and medication through a G-tube as well as communicating using AAC devices. I also have two years of experience working with autistic children ages 2 to 7 years old.
The most important part about being a nanny...
My favorite nanny moment was getting to witness first steps! It felt extra special because it took nearly 2 years of consistent strength building through physical therapy and incredible determination to get there. I will never forget it and will always feel honored that I got to be a part of that moment.
